Dr. Warren Strickland

Class of 2023

Born June 4, 1958, in Dermott, Arkansas, Dr. Warren Lee Strickland grew up in a world steeped in the traditions of hunting and fishing. In this small town known for its Crawfish Festival, a Christmas gift—a bow and arrow—would set 12-year-old Strickland on a journey that would define his life both in and out of the outdoors.

Strickland's passion for archery evolved into national recognition, not only as an expert archer but as a legendary bowhunter. He is one of the few to achieve the coveted “Super Slam,” downing all 29 North American big-game animals with a bow, a feat celebrated in the hunting world. His achievements have been spotlighted on ESPN and outdoor adventure shows, cementing his place among the elite in archery and conservation.

But Strickland’s impact extends far beyond the wilderness. He is one of Alabama's leading cardiologists, practicing in Huntsville with nearly 40 years of experience. A graduate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Strickland has received numerous medical accolades, including the Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award. He is affiliated with hospitals across North Alabama, providing care to countless patients.

Strickland’s dedication to the outdoors fuels his conservation efforts. He has served on the boards of Alabama Forever Wild and the Pope and Young Club and chaired the Alabama Conservation Advisory Board. His commitment to giving back included co-hosting the David Wiley Memorial Heart Shoot with his wife, Isabella, raising over $300,000 for the American Heart Association and Huntsville Hospital.

A family man, Strickland shares his love of bowhunting with his daughter Ashley, whom he proudly calls the family’s best hunter. Whether saving lives in the hospital or preserving wildlife in the field, Dr. Warren Strickland has left an indelible mark on both the natural and human worlds.
