Becky Stitt Plott

Class of 2018

Becky Stitt Plott’s journey from Grissom High School standout to UAH record-setter is more than a story of athletic excellence—it’s a story of perseverance, resilience, and unshakable faith.

Born July 18, 1975, Becky Stitt quickly made her mark in three sports—volleyball, basketball, and softball—earning All-City and All-Tournament honors and leading Grissom to state title contention in all three. In volleyball, she helped secure a state runner-up finish her sophomore year, then back-to-back state championships her junior and senior seasons under coach Gloria Birmingham. One of her most vivid memories: overcoming powerhouse McGill-Toolen in the 1991 state finals with a pair of unforgettable wins from the loser’s bracket.

Basketball was just as promising. Under Coach Phil Holladay, Becky was part of a Grissom team that finished state runner-up in 1992 and was ranked No. 1 in the state the following season. But on January 23, 1993, during a game against Athens, her athletic career took a drastic turn. After hitting a three-pointer, she collapsed—her tibia and fibula shattered. Her senior basketball season ended that night, and she never returned to the softball field.

Despite the devastating injury, the University of Georgia honored her volleyball scholarship. But lingering physical and emotional hurdles led Becky home. She underwent another surgery and transferred to the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she played both volleyball and basketball with renewed passion.

At UAH, Stitt Plott helped lead the Chargers to their first-ever NCAA volleyball regional appearance in 1998 and starred in one of her favorite basketball moments—a Mayor’s Cup win over Alabama A&M at the Von Braun Center in 1997.

Now a teacher and coach at Westminster Christian Academy, Becky attributes her journey to her support system—her father Harold, a decorated Vietnam veteran, her late mother Virginia, her sisters Amy and Mary Lee, and her husband Charlie and children. “This Hall of Fame award belongs to my entire family,” she said. “They sacrificed so much for me.”

Becky Stitt Plott’s legacy is one of grit and gratitude—a reminder that setbacks can forge champions and that real strength comes from how you rise after the fall.
