Biography

He was a professional baseball catcher for nearly 30 years. He claimed his greatest feat was catching 8 double-headers in 9 days without missing an inninghe caught Walter Big Train Johnson, the baseball Hall of Famer, when he was behind the plate for the Washington Senators. Yet for all of his accomplishments, Gabby Street is best remembered for a wacky stunt one summer day in 1908 on a bet he caught a baseball thrown from the top of the Washington Monumentnobody had ever done it before and nobody has done it since.though several have tried. Gabby was born in Huntsville, Alabama and is a member of The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
