Gordon Baby Day starred in Basketball in high school and in the Huntsville Independent Leagues. Baby Day played football, baseball, and basketball at Butler High School from 1955 to 1957. Following the 1956-57 basketball season, he was named to the All-County team. Baby Day received a scholarship to play basketball from Athens State, but was unable to attend. Instead he played in the Independent League with the Huntsville Parkers from 1957 to 1959. He joined the Army In 1960, and played Army League baseball, basketball, and football until his discharge in 1963.
