Madison Countys gift to big time boxingBorn in New Hope, Al in 1900 and Moved to Merrimac Village in 1914 Joined the Army at age16 prior to turning to boxingand that is how he got the nickname SERGEANT Fought out of the same stables as the great Heavyweight Jack Dempsey! His biggest fight? A Welterweight chance at the championship in Los Angeles before a crowd of 85,000 people with ace Hudkins A spectacular fight but Sammy lost his opportunity at the crown.
