Biography

Born May 20, 1951 at Pascagoula, Mississippi, married with three children. Played three years in three sports at Lee High in Huntsville. Won the State Basketball Championship in 1968 and went 21-0 in baseball, winning the city and region in 1969. Made all-state in football. Signed a football scholarship at Auburn University and earned a spot on the starting defensive unit on the 1969 freshman team. Started the next three years which had a combined record of 28 and 5 and appeared in two Gator Bowls (two interceptions 1970 game) and Sugar Bowl. He led the 1970 team in interceptions and holds second place in career interceptions in Auburn history. His senior year of 1972 was outstanding as he played great games against Florida State (two interceptions), Tennessee, Alabama (1970 two interceptions last one to win game) and Colorado in the Gator Bowl. He was named Most Valuable Defensive Player in the 1972 Auburn-Florida State game and Auburn University received a $1,000 scholarship in his name, and the Associated Press named him Back-of-the-Week for his performance against FSU. Against Colorado, Dave completed a touchdown pass off the fake field goal. He earned ALL-SEC, ACADEMIC ALL-SEC, GOLD SHEET AND GRID IRON ALL-AMERICAN HONORS his senior year of 1972. In addition, he played in the Coaches All-American game at Lubbock, Texas, and led the East squad in tackles and interception. Dave then joined the Auburn staff and coached the secondary from 1973 to 1976 under Ralph Jordan. From 1977 through 1980 he coached the running backs, including William Andrews, Joe Cribbs and James Brooks. Presently, Dave is Vice President of Franklin Brick Company in Atlanta, which is the largest brick distributor in the Southeast.
