About Inductee

Biography

John Childress was born in Huntsville and has devoted his life to sports as a Player, Coach and Teacher. He attributes his success in life to a present Hall of Fame inductee, Bill Ironman Childress. While in High School, John was named to the All County and the All District Basketball Team as well as serving as Vice President of his Senior Class and President of the Key Club. He was named as the Most Outstanding Senior and also represented Butler High School at Boys State in 1954. He received his undergraduate Degree from the University of North Alabama and his Masters Degree from Alabama A&M University. This inductee never had a losing season in 20 years of coaching. During this 20-year period, he won 147 games and only lost 43.
